Starting a small business offers significant financial freedom. In contrast, working for someone else means working for someone else. When you are self-employed, your expenses are limited to those that do not include travel expenses. You can live where you want to live, take a vacation where you want to take a vacation, and make all the decisions about your work schedule and working hours as you choose. Your personal life is free, and you can enjoy the experience without worrying about whether your job is going to be there next week.

Many small businesses are also successful and are profitable. This means that you will not only have money coming in on your own schedule but that you will also be making money off of the small businesses you help grow. Most small businesses eventually become large corporations because they have an effective marketing and advertising campaign, a great product, or a service that people need or want.

One of the main reasons small business owners fail is because they do not take their business seriously. They are overly passionate about what they do, rather than serious about building their business. Often times, small business owners do not put in the time and energy necessary to get their business ready to go. Many small businesses also have an owner that is just too busy to put in the necessary hours to run it efficiently. If you fall into any of these categories, you need to seriously re-evaluate your life.

Another reason why so many small businesses fail is because the owner does not pay attention to the things that are important to his business. One of the major trends in the Internet today has been the rise of social media. Social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, and YouTube have made it possible for millions of people to interact with one another on a daily basis. Not only does this allow business owners to communicate with their customers, but also allows them to see how others are experiencing their business. This type of monitoring can drastically increase the chances that your business will succeed.

Of course, there are plenty of other reasons why many small businesses fail, but the ones I’ve mentioned above are just a few. There are many more factors involved. However, if you take a few hours to really evaluate yourself, you can begin to see where you may be falling short. As you do so, make sure to ask yourself some questions. Do you spend a lot of time goofing off on Facebook?

Do you get frustrated because you’re not making as much money as you hoped? Is your marketing mix ineffective? Perhaps you aren’t targeting the right audience? You should be able to pinpoint at least a few problems, but if you keep focusing on them, they’ll only get worse. As you learn more about the various components that make up a successful small business, you’ll be able to improve on those areas and make your company more profitable.

So, what is the real solution for many small businesses? They need to invest in themselves in order to be successful. If you are a business owner and you aren’t putting effort into your company, look at what your competition is doing. It’s their small business owners that are truly successful and are enjoying their business.
